I have chosen the book The forty years that created america: the story of the explorers, promoters, investors, and settlers who founded the first English colonies by Edward M. Lamont, because his work is concise and doesn’t cover extraneous information that is outside the scope of my research. This book will give me a good idea of who were the people most involved in America’s founding. The book is on how the colonial days paved the way for the revolutionary days, and will provide a new perspective on how the struggles of the founders were intertwined. I think it’ll be sufficiently broad and comprehensive in scope without being too broad.

Why I chose to research immigration in colonial times

I settled on the topic of immigration during colonial times because I am descended from immigrants. However, the Chinese came to America much later, well outside the time period this class covers. The story of how America formed is ground in how people were dissatisfied in how life was in the old world. They sought opportunity that was not available had they stayed in Europe. For daring to take a risk, one that could very likely end in their deaths, and formed a new nation out of it.
